There are 3 major types of coal:

1 - Anthracite - hard coal almost pure carbon.

2 - Bituminous - softer coal, common in U.S.A.

3 - Lignite - softest coal

How deeply you are stuck on Santa’s naughty list determines which type of coal you may receive.

There are some who think elves and dwarfs are related. There are dwarfs who are known for mining (especially those famous 7) and Santa gives out lumps of coal to certain individuals who don’t quite make it onto his nice list. So, maybe there is a connection there. What do you think?

Coal is made mostly of carbon. If you have been especially nice you might actually receive a form of carbon called a diamond. That’s right, a diamond is really made of some of the same stuff that coal is. It may have been squeezed under a lot of pressure at high temperature for a long time. So, just remember, if you receive a lump of coal in your stocking you can think of it as a future diamond. Maybe if you really clean up your act someday you might find an actual diamond in your stocking instead. Keep trying!
